Purchase a brick and help support Hagen History Center! Your 6 x 9 brick will be engraved with your own personalized message and installed in the Hagen History Center Carriage House patio where it will become part of the museum grounds forever! 1-3 lines (up to 15 characters per line) of engraving for $100.

A brief history of raising Union black regiments during the Civil War will be provided. Focus will be on the several USCT (United States Colored Troop) regiments that were partially recruited in Northwestern Pennsylvania. Muster rolls, service records, pension records, medical records, etc. were used to perform groundbreaking original research.  Individual black soldiers were identified and described who enlisted or were drafted in the city of Erie, Waterford, or Meadville. U.S. Navy service by local black men will be addressed. Postwar USCT residents of the Pennsylvania Soldiers' and Sailors' Home in Erie will also be covered. Interesting stories of individuals will enrich the research discussed with the audience.

It’s a pandemic! The President and First Lady have tested positive in an election year! 2020 has indeed been a long, trying and often deadly year for millions worldwide. Our lives have all been affected. Masks, quarantines, social distancing, capacity limits at restaurants and bars have all become part of our daily lives.

The Hagen History Center/Erie County Historical Society currently has about 14,000 objects in the 3D collection that they are keeping.  These objects are in a computer data base, are bar coded and are being stored properly for the long term.  The Society wishes to deaccession, or remove from the collection, about 600 objects that have no real connection to Erie than perhaps being used here, and an auction will take place  October 15^th at Ploss Auction in Corry starting at 3:00 pm.

In the early days of Erie, a great Holiday occurred the first Tuesday of October, and it was as exciting as the 4^th of July and Christmas.  What many of us consider a Thanksgiving dinner staple was an excuse for a party here in Erie! Happy Cranberry Day!
